The U.S. Bureau of Intelligence Strategy (IND) as well as the U.S. Intelligence Community have some time ago published their OSINT strategies for the coming years, outlining their visions, strategic targets and focus area on OSINT.

The IC community published the IC OSINT Strategy 2024-2026 outlining four strategic focus areas: coordinate acquisition and sharing, collection management, innovation, next generation OSINT workforce and tradecraft. The IND (Department of State)published their Open Source Intelligence Strategy listing four slightly different goals: governance, capabilities, training and tradecraft, collaboration with what Robert David Steele called the Tribes.

The future of OSINT has been discussed earlier, and it is interesting to see what came of those wishes and predictions, or is there some consistency? Have a look at Open Source Intelligence the way ahead (2021), The Not Yet Exploited Goldmine of OSINT : Opportunities,Open Challenges and Future Trends (2020), The future of open source intelligence for UK national security (RUSI , 2022), or OSINT 2020 : The future of Open source intelligence (2010).

Remember, OSINT is a very broad and general concept that applies to many different areas. That explains why there are so many different definitions and visions. It is up to you to derive what is useful in your own environment.
