Learn the best intelligence analysis techniques to make sense of a problem!

This course will share modern and practical intelligence analysis techniques to make sense of a irregular information set.

Following the collection and validation of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), it is essential to convert open source data into actionable intelligence. The analysis phase demands a specific analytical skill set, supported by methodological precision and professional accountability, additional of awareness of analysis in the overall intelligence cycle.

The analytical module of this training is designed to equip participants with the tools and techniques required to produce high-quality and relevant intelligence products to serve the interest of decision makers.

What does it look like?

The OSINT Intelligence Analysis training programme continues where the OSINT Pathfinder stops. The OSINT Pathfinder is for professionals who pursue a career in OSINT, whereas the OSINT part in intelligence analysis training is aimed at analysis techniques.

The training is divided in two parts:

Schedule. The training is scheduled for four days, 32 hours in total, with a refresher session after a few months. The training  is divided in two parts.

Intelligence Analysis agenda

Day one: OSINT foundation

Participants wil learn how to design and execute a systematic, planned and structured method to search open sources and find a representative, balanced set of information on a certain subject. This day is devoted to two fundamental principles of OSINT. Those are: requirement analysis and problem deconstruction and two: designing a collection plan.

Morning session : OSINT design
Requirement analysis & problem deconstruction. Participants will learn how to break down a complex problem in manageable concepts, then to create a set of Answerable Questions for each of them. The second step is then to investigate the global world of open sources: how is it organised, where to find what, and the main sources to find good information.

Afternoon session : OSINT planning The third logical step from the OSINT Intelligence cycle is to create a intelligence collection plan, a detailed report listing exactly what to do with the required answers. Semantics and terminology are essential in this step, and basic techniques to get the most out of your browser will be explained.

Day two: OSINT techniques

Day two will cover the essential techniques to actually execute an OSINT research plan, aimed at intelligence analysis.

Morning session : search techniques
Participants will learn how to use AI assistents in searching for open source information, and how to combine these with conventional free Internet search engines. Principles and application of Boolean Logic to construct smart queries that work in any search engine will be explained. Productive search strategies such as Building Blocks and Successive fractions will be demonstrated and practiced.

Afternoon session : OSINT management
Validation techniques to establish the authenticity of open source information is an essential step prior to analysis techniques. The OSINT logbook will be discussed to record the research. Also, the concept of portable sofware to ensure structure and systematics is explained.

Day three: Analytical Foundations and Techniques

Morning session: Principles of Intelligence Analysis
Participants will be introduced to the foundational principles, context and procedural steps required for conducting effective intelligence analysis. The session will emphasize the importance of structured thinking, methodological rigor, and analytical discipline. Special attention will be given to the responsibilities of analysts operating within institutional frameworks, where transparency and accountability are critical.

Afternoon session: Applied analytic techniques
This session will offer practical instruction in a range of structured analytic techniques commonly employed in intelligence settings. Techniques will be demonstrated and then practiced in guided exercises. Participants will learn how to apply these methods in support of investigative objectives, as well as strategic or tactical assessments. Emphasis will be placed on selecting appropriate tools based on the nature of the intelligence question.

Day four: Scenario-based analysis and intelligence reporting

Morning session Integrative scenario exercise
Participants will work with a realistic scenario requiring the integration of OSINT collection methods, targeted research, and structured analytic techniques. The exercise is designed to simulate real-world challenges faced by analysts in various institutions, fostering critical thinking and methodological integration.

Afternoon session: Reporting and Strategic Communication
The final session will focus on structured reporting and peer review. Participants will present their findings to the group, articulating their analytical process, key judgments, and evidence base. Emphasis will be placed on the clarity, relevance, and utility of the final product.
